SkyPoint Climb on Q1
The SkyPoint Climb is a guided climb up the outside of the Q1 spire, Australia's highest external building climb. You step out through a glass airlock on Level 77, about 240 m above the street, and climb a stairway to the summit at 270 m, clipped to a safety rail the whole way.
Hold the inside handrail, or walk along the open edge of the stairs with the drop beside you. At the top the climb leader takes group and individual photos and points out the landmarks of the coast.

SkyPoint Climb rules: age, height and health
Age and height: climbers must be at least 12 years old and 130 cm tall. Children aged 12 to 15 climb with a full-paying adult, at most two children per adult.
Weight: the limit is 136 kg, fully clothed.
Fitness: you need to manage about 140 steps up at around 30 degrees and the same back down, plus short step ladders, and stay on your feet for about 30 minutes on the course. There are no toilets on the climb.
Medical clearance: climbers aged 75 or over, anyone up to 20 weeks pregnant and people with heart, breathing, joint or other listed conditions bring a form signed by their doctor. From 21 weeks of pregnancy you cannot climb, nor with vertigo or a true fear of heights.
Breath test: everyone is breath-tested at the briefing and must read below 0.05. Refusing the test or failing it means no climb and no refund.
What to wear and bring
Wear fully enclosed, rubber-soled shoes such as trainers or hiking shoes: sandals, ballet flats and thongs are not allowed. The climb suit goes over your own clothes, and you keep the cap you are given.
Nothing loose goes up, including phones, cameras, GoPros, rings, necklaces and watches; free lockers hold them, and staff check with a metal detector wand. Glasses and sunglasses get a strap. Photos from the summit are sold back on the ground.
Weather and arrival
The climb runs in rain and wind and is rescheduled only for electrical storms, hail or very strong winds. Arrive at the time on your ticket even if the weather looks poor; climbs do not wait for latecomers, and a missed climb is not refunded.
Dates can be changed up to 7 days before the climb, subject to availability.
- Is the SkyPoint Climb scary?
- SkyPoint rates it a moderate to high thrill. You are harnessed to a rail at all times, and an inside handrail runs the full length of the course for anyone who prefers to keep away from the edge.
- Can I take my phone on the SkyPoint Climb?
- No, phones and cameras stay in a free locker. The climb leader photographs the group and each climber at the summit, and the photos can be bought after the climb.
- Can friends who do not climb watch?
- Yes. From inside the observation deck they can follow your climb through the glass ceiling, and meet you there when you come down.
- Can I climb on New Year's Eve?
- Yes, SkyPoint runs a New Year's Eve climb timed for the 20:00 fireworks. It is sold separately on the official SkyPoint site.
